Spurr Mortgage Celebrates 25 Years In Edmond

Spurr Mortgage, a member of the Edmond Locally Owned group of the Edmond Chamber of Commerce, is celebrating its 25th anniversary of supporting the housing needs of the citizens of Edmond. Founded in 1990 by Harold Spurr, who left his job in the banking industry to pursue his dream of owning his own company, Spurr Mortgage has stayed true to its mission to provide outstanding home mortgage services in Edmond and throughout Oklahoma. Because of this philosophy, Spurr Mortgage has the distinct honor of being the only remaining mortgage broker in the state who started its business in the 90’s.

Harold’s first hire in 1990 was his assistant, Jennifer Reherman Buffington, who has been with Spurr Mortgage since the beginning and is now a Partner in the company. With 25 years at Spurr Mortgage, she has gained the admiration and respect of all those clients whom she has helped finance a home. Harold’s son, Richard Spurr, joined the business two years ago and coordinates the raw land and swimming pool division.

Instead of remaining stagnant during the recent downturn in the economy, Spurr Mortgage has evolved and grown with the needs of the community. In fact, it has made a name for itself throughout Oklahoma by specializing in No-Down Payment or 100% financing on land and residential lots. Another advantage at Spurr Mortgage is that the relationship does not end after the loan closes. Customers are encouraged to continue using their services to finance swimming pools and home renovations by utilizing the 100% home equity loan program.

Harold, Jennifer and Richard are proud to be Edmond residents and love to remind customers that they are more than just a mortgage company – they are their neighbors! Unlike the ‘Big Boys,’ the staff at Spurr Mortgages sees that each customer’s special needs are taken into consideration. Such out of the box thinking is what has bolstered Spurr Mortgage’s 25-year reputation for providing excellent service for home loans in the local community.

Harold Spurr and his staff enjoy giving back to the local community. Harold is a member and past President of the Edmond Exchange Club, which has promoted the prevention of child abuse through the organization called Parent Promise for 39 years. Harold also was appointed by Governor Keating in 2001 to serve on the Mortgage Broker Advisory Committee for the Department of Consumer Credit. Richard has followed in his father’s footsteps and is a member of AMBUCS, a civic group that provides therapeutic tricycles for individuals with disabilities.
